Mixed media drawing and sculpture specialising in ceramic sculpture. Inspired by the form, patterns and forces that shape the natural world.
Rob Stevens. I trained in Ceramics and three-dimensional design at Wolverhampton in the mid 1970s. Early in my career I spent 5 years in Sierra Leone, West Africa as a volunteer with V.S.O. (Voluntary Service Overseas) developing pottery in a remote village called Mambolo. There I introduced kiln building and appropriate technologies in pottery and fired clay brick-making.
When I returned to Britain in 1985, I taught in Buckinghamshire and for the next 30 years I ran the department of Fine Art at the Royal Grammar School, High Wycombe.
In 2017 the opportunity arose to further my ambition to become a practising artist/sculptor. I came to live on Arran with my wife Jane and built my studio beside the burn ‘Allt Gobhlach’ which runs alongside our home in Pirmill. I can be found most days working on site.
