Iris Russell
Iris paints watercolours usually characterised with soft, muted colours depicting rocks, pebbles, driftwood, sea shells and other treasures from the Arran shores. She also paints animals found on the island, pet portraits and items with character and patina.
In my youth I studied art at Art College abroad and specialised in creating large batik paintings. Later I moved from painting to crafting and went through almost every kind of craft – lino cutting, textile art, jewellery making, felting, macrame – you name it!
After I retired and moved to Arran, I felt that it was time to pick up painting again and joined London Art College and completed a watercolour diploma course with them. I was hooked and felt that I had finally found what I was supposed to be doing with my creativity. Arran gives me plenty of inspiration and almost all my paintings have some connection to this island.
