Raine is a contemporary Scottish artist living on Arran. She works in a wide range of mediums, inspired by the natural world and the beauty of the island.
“I trained at Grays School of Art and then went on to work with children and young people in various health and wellbeing settings, most recently as an additional support needs art teacher. I’ve always kept up my own painting and drawing practice and a few years ago I studied printmaking at Leith School of Art which ignited a love of all things print.
Moving to Whiting Bay last year has fulfilled a long held dream of living by the sea again after growing up on the East coast. Now I have my garden studio with views of Holy Isle, the Firth of Clyde and all the inspiration I could ask for on my doorstep. I’m also fortunate to have a secondhand printing press which allows me to use processes including linocut, monotype, drypoint and letterpress.
I’m fascinated by looking closely at the details of natural forms and structures, from geology and botany to marine life and birds. I love to explore the textures, patterns and rhythms of the changing land and seascapes and the wildlife found within those environments. It’s my aim to create artwork of every beautiful thing I see here in my new island home.”
